Devil in the kitchen (strathspey)
recorded: July 2001
This recording, which has been subject to considerable 'cleaning’, is played once at normal tempo and then again, in part, at half speed but with the pitch retained as a means of illustrating Skinner’s style as a player of the 'birl’.
The recording was prepared by Stuart Eydmann to illustrate his paper “Unravelling the Birl” presented to the Noth Atlantic Fiddle Convention, Aberdeen in 2001 and subsequently published in “Play it like it is – fiddle and dance studies from around the North Atlantic” (Aberdeen, 2006): http://www.abdn.ac.uk/~wap001/publications/fiddle_studies.shtml
